Introduction

If you're like me, You probably spend hours trying to build the "Perfect Productivity System." You keep building and improving the system rather than using that time efficiently.

I've been through this; I wanted a productivity system to help me manage my Academic and Programming life. I've tried Notion, got overwhelmed, went back to obsidian, tried Notion again, got overwhelmed again, and went back to obsidian. It happened to me a lot. I was addicted to improving my productivity system and wasted days on them. It DID take me a while to realize that I, a HighSchool Student, did not require such a fancy productivity system.

I am not talking about apps or websites. I'm talking about our tendency to be productive as people online who share the productivity system that works for THEM. Their ideas might or might not help you. It did not work for me.

My solution

Dealing with YouTube Shorts

I hid the "Youtube Shorts" section from youtube and did not check my youtube "Homepage." Here's the thing; YouTube is a platform with tons of great resources. It consists of channels that help you to code or build up any other skill for free. It can help you when used intentionally.

If you use other apps to watch these short videos to procrastinate, delete your account or don't open it (If you have the willpower).

Productivity System

I realized that Notion wasn't helping me with academics (If you run a business or are working on a project with your team, I would recommend Notion as it is a powerful tool with collaboration features). I decided to stick with a simple productivity system, A productivity system that is interesting and easy to use alike. I then learned about Habitica, an app that gamifies your life, something I tried to accomplish with Notion but had to build everything on my own. I –to be honest– wasn't good with it.

With Habitica, all I have to do is add my dailies, habits, and to-dos. Don't get me wrong; you are likely to spend a lot of time in Habitica as it consists of complex features; in that case, I recommend a to-do app much simpler like Trello or Todoist.

Note Taking

I started using Obsidian, an app for people who like simplicity and for people who are fond of complex note-taking apps. I did not delete my notion workspace as I knew I might return to it someday, but not soon. Note-taking with Notion was overwhelming. With Obsidian, I can do pretty much everything I need.

Conclusion

While Productivity doesn't have to be complicated, You can stick with your productivity system if you are doing well. If you are not, You may try my simplified system for ordinary people and check if it works for you. Have a great day and a Happy Coding journey!!
